Panasonic, maker of the ToughBook series of notebook computers, has launched its first rugged digital camera: the Lumix TS1.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 is a rugged shockproof, waterproof, and dustproof digital camera with a sensor resolution of 12.1 effective megapixels from a 1/2.33″ RGB CCD image sensor, and Panasonic has coupled this to an image stabilized, Leica DC Vario-Elmar branded 4.6x optical zoom lens with a useful 28-128mm-equivalent wide-angle zoom.

iPad: Kindle killer

I’m sure everybody is hyped up and raving about the new iPad from Apple but what is it really? I’m all for Apple and their innovative products but the iPad? It is nothing more but a bigger version of the iPhone or let alone a big brother to the ipod Touch. Sure, it has a fast processor, better graphics and larger LED screen but did our expectations betray us? Bottom line, the new iPad is an oversized iPhone/ iTouch that has no camera. What’s it for you, you say? It’s to increase subscriptions for iTunes and to steal (Amazon) Kindle’s spotlight. Oh, you didn’t know? Amazon sold more ebooks than actual books this past year! hmm seems like Apple is pulling a “Microsoft” and taking over Amazon’s ebook market. If you were hoping for a mac tablet computer, your best bet right now is to check out Axiotron.com Modbook pro, they are the closest thing to my mac tablet expectations. Until then, I’m a bit disappointed… but we’ll see how this will play out.

THE GOOD: Strong design and Microsoft don’t always go together, but they do in Windows 7. Users might take a while to get used to the new taskbar and Aero Peek, but they’re a pleasure to use.

THE BAD: Performance is still hit-or-miss in Windows 7. At the ripe age of seven, Windows XP still performs better in some categories.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Windows 7 is more than what Vista should have been, it’s where Microsoft needed to go. How much damage Vista did and whether Windows 7 is enough for people to finally abandon Windows XP are questions that nobody has the answers to right now.
