Finally Microsoft have seen the light and decided to team up with publishers and produce “real limited edition console bundles”, not the pseudo-collectors bundles they have been releasing in the past.
Those have been fitted with the standard Xbox 360, copy of said game and some other trinket.
In the last generation of Xbox consoles, Microsoft did really well selling additional 1st-Gen Xboxs. There were many special game title editions, as well as country editions. All of which sold out exceptionally fast, and at a premium price too I might add.
Why?
Because they became desirable from a collector’s perspective, plus it added a new incentive to not only own a new console which looked different, but gave the gamer some bragging rights over his/her mates.
If they follow suit and continue with this trend, which I have “always” encouraged them to do, then they could sell more consoles than they are now.
Sure, they will come at a premium price point. That’s a given, and they aren’t looking at replacing the current line, simply adding an extra option to those who want top spend the money for that something different. I know I would if I had the $$.

Infinity Ward could have hitched a ride on the success of Call of Duty 4 and released a moderately updated game with new maps and some new weapons, but they didn’t – they updated everything without losing any of the violent charm of the original. Here’s a general rule regarding Modern Warfare 2: if it wasn’t customizable in CoD4, it is now. You can still only have three kill streak rewards at a time, but after level 10, you’ll start unlocking new rewards which you can use in place of the defaults.
